Vernacular portraiture and family

This project started with dad bringing out Kodak slides taken by my late Grandpa, who died in June 2024. He was a devoted family man, and throughout my dad’s childhood and his four siblings’, he was always taking pictures of them. I didn’t realise how few of those slides had been scanned and printed compared to those that had been developed as slides and never seen the light of day again. Determined to rectify this, I decided to scan a few boxes I had found and see what was inside. It was incredibly fascinating, and I’ve discovered so many precious photographs that I want to include in my project. I have many more photos to go through, so this project will allow me to explore my Grandpa’s photography over the years.

Some of the photos were damaged over time either by colour distortion or not being developed correctly, so it also meant that I needed to use my own skills in the darkroom and photoshop to bring these photos back to life.
